Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests, handling specimens, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results in compliance with hospital policies, quality standards, and safety regulations.

Key ResponsibilitiesSample Collection & Processing

Collect, receive, label, and process patient specimens accurately.
Verify patient identification and specimen details before testing.
Ensure proper storage, transportation, and handling of samples.

Laboratory Testing

Perform routine and specialized laboratory investigations as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Conduct tests in areas such as Hematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Clinical Pathology, and Immunology.
Record and validate test results accurately.

Equipment Maintenance

Operate laboratory instruments and analyzers efficiently.
Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and quality control checks.
Report equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs when necessary.

Quality Assurance

Follow laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
Participate in internal and external quality assessment programs.

Safety & Compliance

Adhere to infection control, biosafety, and waste management protocols.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.

Documentation & Reporting

Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Assist in preparing laboratory reports and statistics.

Qualifications

Diploma/Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or equivalent.
Valid registration/license as per applicable regulatory requirements.
Freshers or experienced candidates may apply.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge of laboratory procedures and diagnostic testing.
Proficiency in laboratory equipment operation.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with LIS software.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.

Working Conditions

Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Exposure to biological specimens and laboratory chemicals.
Compliance with all hospital safety and infection control policies.
