SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) is a Mumbai-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health, nutrition, and safety of women and children living in vulnerable urban informal settlements. Our mission is to empower urban women and children through integrated health and nutrition programs, education, and advocacy. We work through a dual approach—engaging both care seekers and care providers. At the community level, we empower women and families to become agents of change, while simultaneously collaborating with public health and safety systems to drive sustainable improvements in urban health outcomes. SNEHA’s key programs include Maternal and Child Health Empowerment, Health and Sexuality of Adolescent Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Public System Partnership Palliative Care. Between 2016 and 2025, SNEHA directly reached over 620,555 women, children, and healthcare workers, and indirectly impacted a population of over 3.63 million across seven municipal corporations and three municipal councils in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Today, SNEHA is a 500+ member organization with deep grassroots presence and a strong track record of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, child malnutrition, adolescent anemia, and gender-based violence—key determinants of health equity for families and communities.
Role Description
This is a contract, on-site role for a Consultant Doctor located in Mumbai. The palliative care doctor will evaluate the case, manage the treatment to alleviate pain, and will attempt to keep the patient as comfortable as possible through medication and advice. Will also provide relief from the associated symptoms and alleviate their patients' physical and emotional pain to improve their quality of life. They also work with their patients' families to alleviate stress. Attending the inpatient palliative care consultation service. Devote their time to intensive family meetings. Participating in the clinical, educational, and research activities of the organization. Prescribe medication and treatments. Improve access to information for patients and families so that they understand the patient’s condition and treatment options.
Major Duties
Examine and evaluate patients
Attending RPC and any other as per the requirements of the program
Symptom management of referred patients
OPD ward visits and visiting community rehabilitation centers
Managing emergency calls and coordinating with hospital residents
Conducting trainings as and when required for different stakeholders
Giving feedback to referring doctors
Coordinated with the Team members and guide them for the cases.
Monitor the data daily basis and check referral case details.
Meet with patients or caregivers in homes and medical settings.
Qualifications
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and relevant registration with a recognized medical board
- Experience in public health, community health programs, or maternal and child health initiatives
- Proficiency in diagnosing and treating life limiting illnesses, particularly in underserved communities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders
- Analytical and problem-solving skills for program monitoring and evaluation purposes
- Fluency in local languages and an understanding of urban informal settlements is an advantage
- Previous work with non-profits or public health organizations is beneficial
