Job Summary
The Lab Technician – ELISA is responsible for performing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) and related immunoassay tests with high accuracy and reliability. The role includes sample processing, assay execution, quality control, instrument handling, and ensuring compliance with NABL / ISO 15189 standards.
1. Sample Handling & Processing
- Receive, verify, and process serum/plasma samples
- Ensure proper centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage conditions
- Maintain sample integrity and traceability
- Reject unsuitable samples as per SOP with proper documentation
2. ELISA Testing & Analysis
- Perform ELISA-based tests such as:
- Infectious markers (e.g., HIV, HBsAg, HCV, Dengue, etc.)
- Allergy markers, autoimmune markers, and tumor markers
- Follow kit-specific protocols strictly (incubation times, washing steps, reagent preparation)
- Perform manual or semi-automated ELISA procedures
- Operate ELISA reader and washer
3. Assay Preparation & Plate Handling
- Prepare reagents, standards, and controls accurately
- Perform proper plate loading and pipetting techniques
- Avoid cross-contamination and ensure uniform assay conditions
- Monitor incubation and timing precisely
4. Quality Control & NABL Compliance
- Run Internal Quality Control (IQC) with each batch
- Validate assay runs based on control values and calibration curves
- Maintain QC records, Levy-Jennings charts, and corrective actions
- Participate in External Quality Assurance Schemes (EQAS)
- Ensure complete documentation and audit readiness
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of ELISA principles and assay workflow
- Excellent pipetting skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with ELISA reader/washer systems
- Knowledge of NABL / ISO 15189 guidelines
- Basic computer and LIS proficiency
