Job Summary
The Staff Nurse at Cobh Hospital is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred nursing care in accordance with professional standards, clinical guidelines, and hospital policies. The Staff Nurse works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients, promoting dignity, respect, and holistic wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provide evidence-based nursing care to patients in line with best practice and hospital protocols.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care plans.
- Administer medications safely and maintain accurate medication records in accordance with NMBI standards.
- Monitor patient progress, report concerns promptly, and escalate when necessary.
- Ensure the safe use of equipment and maintain a clean, therapeutic environment.
Patient Safety & Quality
- Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines at all times.
- Record and maintain accurate clinical documentation using appropriate systems.
- Participate in audits, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement activities.
- Uphold safeguarding practices for vulnerable patients.
Communication & Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support coordinated patient care.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Provide support, guidance, and mentorship to healthcare assistants and student nurses.
- Participate in handovers, team meetings, and case discussions.
Professional Development
- Maintain professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Engage in mandatory training and ongoing professional development.
- Keep up to date with clinical best practices and hospital procedures.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Registered active NMBI registration.
- Previous clinical experience desirable; newly qualified nurses may be considered.
- Strong clinical judgement and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
