Pharmacy In-Charge
The Pharmacy In-Charge is responsible for the overall management of the hospital pharmacy, ensuring safe, effective, and timely dispensing of medicines while maintaining compliance with regulatory and hospital policies.
1. Pharmacy Operations Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy department.
- Ensure timely dispensing of medications to inpatients and outpatients.
- Monitor workflow and maintain smooth pharmacy services 24/7.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
2. Inventory and Stock Management
- Maintain adequate stock levels of medicines and consumables.
- Monitor expiry dates and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO/FEFO).
- Coordinate procurement and replenishment of medicines.
- Prevent stock-outs and overstocking.
- Conduct periodic stock verification and inventory audits.
3. Medication Safety and Quality Assurance
- Ensure accurate dispensing and labeling of medications.
- Monitor medication errors and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain proper storage conditions for drugs, including temperature-sensitive items.
- Ensure compliance with medication safety standards and quality requirements.
4. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Pharmacy Act, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, NABH standards, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain all pharmacy licenses and statutory records.
- Ensure proper documentation of controlled and restricted drugs.
5. Team Management
- Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and support staff.
- Prepare duty rosters and manage staff schedules.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide guidance to team members.
- Identify training needs and facilitate staff development programs.
6. Clinical and Patient Care Support
- Provide medication-related information to doctors, nurses, and patients.
- Participate in medication counseling when required.
- Support rational drug use and antibiotic stewardship initiatives.
- Coordinate with clinical departments regarding medication availability and usage.
7. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of drug purchases, dispensing, returns, and wastage.
- Generate pharmacy-related reports for management review.
- Monitor pharmacy expenditure and drug utilization trends.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation at all times.
8. Coordination and Communication
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors for medicine procurement.
- Coordinate with nursing units and departments regarding medication requirements.
- Participate in hospital committees related to medication management and patient safety.
