Job Overview
Our client in Ras Al Khaimah requires an Operation Theatre Nurse for a multi-speciality hospital supporting planned and emergency surgical procedures. The position requires a nurse who understands sterile discipline, instrument readiness, surgical checklists, patient safety and coordinated teamwork inside a high-responsibility clinical environment. The role is suitable for candidates who have worked with surgeons, anaesthesia teams, recovery room nurses and CSSD teams, and who can maintain calm, accurate practice during busy surgical schedules.
Detailed Job Description
- Prepare the operation theatre before each case by checking room readiness, sterility indicators, equipment function, instrument trays, consumables, implants, sutures, swabs, emergency supplies and patient-specific requirements.
- Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, allergy status, investigation reports, pre-operative checklist and surgical site documentation before shifting the patient into the theatre.
- Assist surgeons and anaesthesia teams during procedures by maintaining sterile technique, anticipating instrument needs, monitoring counts, handling specimens correctly and supporting safe intra-operative workflow.
- Coordinate with CSSD for sterile packs, with ward teams for patient transfer, with recovery room staff for post-operative handover, and with pharmacy/stores for implants, medicines and surgical consumables.
- Maintain accurate OT records, implant documentation, swab and instrument counts, procedure notes, incident reports, sterilisation records and handover details according to hospital policy.
- Support infection-control practices inside the theatre complex, including zoning discipline, PPE use, waste segregation, equipment cleaning, linen handling and terminal cleaning coordination after procedures.
- Observe patients during pre-operative and immediate post-operative phases, recognise changes in consciousness, pain, bleeding, oxygen saturation or vital signs, and escalate concerns promptly.
- Participate in surgical safety briefings, audit activities, emergency drills and quality-improvement processes that reduce delays, prevent errors and improve patient outcomes.
Candidate Profile
The candidate should be disciplined, alert, organised and confident in a sterile clinical environment. Strong communication with surgeons, anaesthetists and nursing teams is essential. Applicants with UAE licensing eligibility or previous Gulf healthcare experience may be preferred, depending on the employer's requirements.
