Job Overview
Our client in Nagpur requires an Operation Theatre Nurse for a surgical facility with planned and emergency procedures. The position requires a nurse who understands sterile practice, instrument readiness, patient safety, surgical team coordination and documentation across the pre-operative, intra-operative and immediate post-operative phases.
Detailed Responsibilities
The Operation Theatre Nurse will verify surgical schedules, prepare the theatre environment, check instruments, sutures, implants, consumables and emergency equipment, and ensure that patient identification, consent and pre-operative instructions are completed before shifting to theatre. During procedures, the nurse will assist the surgical and anaesthesia teams, maintain aseptic technique, support sponge and instrument counts, monitor sterility, respond to surgeon requirements and document intra-operative details according to hospital policy. After procedures, the nurse will support safe transfer to recovery, communicate handover details, arrange cleaning and sterilisation workflows, and report equipment or stock issues promptly. The role requires coordination with CSSD, anaesthesia, ward nurses, surgeons, biomedical teams and housekeeping so that theatre lists run smoothly and safely.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is disciplined, alert, well organised and comfortable working in a controlled theatre environment. They should respect surgical protocols, remain calm during urgent cases and communicate clearly during handovers. Experience in laparoscopic surgery, orthopaedic procedures, obstetric theatre or emergency OT support will be an added advantage.
Licensing / Registration Notes
Active Maharashtra Nursing Council registration or equivalent valid State Nursing Council registration is mandatory. BLS is required and ACLS is preferred. Candidates must provide nursing registration, education certificates and prior theatre-experience records during verification.
