Detailed Responsibilities
The Psychiatric Nurse will observe patient behaviour, monitor vitals and medication response, support medication administration, maintain nursing notes and participate in safety planning under the direction of psychiatrists and senior nurses. The role includes assisting with admissions, discharge planning, psychoeducation, patient routines, family communication and escalation when patients show distress, withdrawal symptoms or risk-related changes. The nurse will work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, social workers and ward support teams to maintain a therapeutic environment. Documentation, confidentiality, respectful communication, de-escalation skills and adherence to facility protocols are central to this role. The nurse must avoid judgemental language and should be able to balance empathy with firm professional boundaries.
