Role Description The Staff Pharmacist is a full-time, on-site role based at Penny Fausta Pharmacies in Calgary, AB. The Staff Pharmacist will provide clinical pharmacy services, including medication reviews, therapy optimization, and direct patient counseling for a range of conditions such as diabetes, mental health, respiratory, cardiovascular, and complex multi-drug therapies. Daily responsibilities include dispensing prescriptions accurately, verifying orders, managing medication inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices. The role involves collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals, using digital systems to coordinate care, and documenting clinical interventions and patient outcomes. The Staff Pharmacist will also participate in patient education initiatives, contribute to quality improvement activities, and support the pharmacy’s community-focused programs and services.
Qualifications
- Licensure as a Pharmacist in Alberta (or eligibility for licensure) and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD).
- Clinical pharmacy skills, including comprehensive medication management, therapeutic drug monitoring, and experience with chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, mental health, cardiovascular, respiratory conditions, addiction, complex polypharmacy).
- Strong patient care capabilities, such as conducting medication reviews, providing counseling, delivering health education, and practicing with empathy and cultural sensitivity.
- Collaboration and communication skills for working closely with prescribers, other pharmacists, and healthcare teams, including clear documentation and professional interpersonal communication.
- Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, electronic health records, and digital tools used to coordinate care and manage workflow.
- Knowledge of applicable pharmacy regulations, standards of practice, and medication safety principles, with attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work in a busy community clinical pharmacy setting, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to process improvement and innovative patient services.
- Experience in community or clinical pharmacy practice is preferred; additional certifications (e.g., injection authorization, chronic disease management credentials) are an asset
