General practitioner – Hospital at Home (remote onsite in Stevenage)
Location: Stevenage (remote onsite)
Working pattern: Weekend shifts – Saturday and Sunday
This is an exciting opportunity to join a pioneering Hospital at Home service, part of Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT), that is transforming how urgent and emergency care is delivered in the community. The service supports early discharge, admission prevention and proactive care for frail adults, offering a safer, more responsive and more convenient alternative to hospital-based treatment.
As a General Practitioner (GP) in our virtual ward, you will provide expert remote clinical decision making, carry out patient assessments and deliver rapid interventions for adults with urgent and complex needs. Working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you’ll help ensure patients receive timely, compassionate and effective care closer to home.

Essential requirements
- Qualified GP with a full GMC registration
- Right to work in the UK
- Completed clinical attachment (placements are not offered)
- Minimum six months paid NHS experience
- Three years of recent NHS references available
Desirable experience
- Urgent Care, A&E or Out-of-Hours experience
- Five years post‑CCT in general practice
- Previous virtual ward or acute care experience
- Experience supporting or supervising an MDT
- Experience collaborating across organisations
