Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our Chronic Pain Management team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive patient care in a multidisciplinary pain management clinic. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse patient populations, utilizing advanced clinical skills to improve health outcomes. The Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
We provide supportive work environment in a modern pain management clinic. Options for flexible work arrangements and work on contract basis are also available.
Roles and Responsibilities
The NP shall be responsible for providing the following services, which are common to a chronic pain clinic setting:
Patient Care and Management
Performing comprehensive medical consultations for new and established patients experiencing chronic pain.
Conducting regular follow-ups to assess treatment efficacy, patient response, and modify treatment plans as necessary.
Prescribing and managing medications, including controlled substances, in accordance with applicable provincial and federal regulations and Clinic protocols.
Interpreting and explaining imaging findings (e.g., X-rays, CTs & MRIs) and diagnostic test results to patients.
Providing patient education on pain management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and treatment expectations.
Responding to patient inquiries, including emails and phone calls with patients, to discuss management, medications, or to explain imaging findings.
Option to develop skills for joint and bursa injections for pain patients.
Quality Assurance and Policy Development
Participating in and leading quality assurance and improvement projects focused on chronic pain management outcomes and clinic efficiency.
Assisting in the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols relevant to the NP's scope of practice and Clinic operations.
Contributing to patient safety initiatives and risk management activities within the clinic setting.
Infusion Clinic Supervision
Providing clinical supervision of nurses involved in the ‘infusion clinic’.
Ensuring the safe and proper administration of specialty infusions, including Lidocaine and Ketamine Infusions, adhering to established protocols, medical directives, and patient safety standards.
Providing clinical care to the patients having infusions if required.
Administrative and Professional Responsibilities
Maintaining accurate, complete, and timely medical records and documentation for all patient encounters on EMR.
Collaborating with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient care.
Practice in accordance with established Clinic policies and procedures
Timely referrals to other specialists and follow-up on these.
Attending Clinic meetings as and when requested.
Essential Requirements
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license in PEI.
- Valid ACLS.
- Ability to perform case management effectively for complex cases.
- Familiarity with routine investigations and laboratory results.
- Experience with EMR.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to diverse population.
Desirable Requirements
- Proven experience working in a specialty setting especially Pain Management will be desirable
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CT and MRI and medication administration in pain management.
