Doctor Functional Assessor - Hybrid
If you are a Medical Doctor who enjoys structured work, meaningful conversations and predictable hours, this role offers a rewarding new direction. As a Functional Assessor with Ingeus, you’ll use your clinical reasoning to support people living with chronic mental and physical health conditions, with the benefit of hybrid working and a clear work–life balance.
The role will require wide generalist healthcare experience as you will be required to interpret diverse and extreme cases, which will in turn develop your clinical skills.
This role also requires accuracy, strong IT competence and daily high-quality clinical report writing. If you struggle with structured frameworks or dislike producing detailed written reports, this will not be the right fit.
Day to Day
You’ll carry out functional assessments each day, comprising of:
- Telephone, video or in-person assessments
- Evidence review and clinical triage
- Focused questioning and active listening
- Clear, objective clinical reporting to strict standards
You’ll manage your workload independently, and your reports will contribute to DWP decision making.

Training
You’ll complete a 9-week full-time induction with expert clinical tutors, followed by supervised assessments and ongoing feedback. Training is structured, detailed and essential for success in the role.
Development
For those who meet quality and performance standards:
- 35 hours of protected CPD each year
- Support from clinical supervisors
- Progression routes into Quality, Training, or Clinical Practice Lead roles
Your Requirements
- Valid GMC registration number
- 12+ months UK post-registration experience
- Strong IT and written communication skills
- High attention to detail and objectivity

A note on experience
To be considered, you must have:
- At least 12 months of post-registration experience in the UK.
- Been a practising clinician in the UK for at least the last 12 months
- Broad clinical exposure to a wide range of conditions and ailments
- Strong written communication and clinical reasoning
