Roles & Responsibilities
* Coordinate daily administrative duties, including staff schedules, nursing assignments, and patient care.
* Record patients’ medical records and monitor vital signs.
* Supervise nursing staff and oversee their daily activities and performance.
* Oversee patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
* Mentor and train newly recruited staff while providing continuous guidance and support.
* Monitor medical charts and ensure compassionate, patient-centered care is delivered.
* Liaise with doctors, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams and communicate protocol changes to staff.
* Ensure compliance with all hospital health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
* Record, prepare, and maintain accurate nursing reports and documentation.
* Manage the nursing care of all patients within the ward/department during each shift.
Delegate nursing duties among nurses and coordinate with physicians and allied healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care.
* Ensure appropriate nurse-to-patient ratio within the ward.
* Continuously monitor patients’ conditions and respond promptly to changes in health status.
* Supervise Nursing Aides in completing assigned duties and provide constructive guidance for improvement.
* Identify and report any issues that could compromise the safety of patients or staff.
* Inform physicians regarding changes in patient condition, progress, or medical requirements.
* Supervise staff grooming, punctuality, discipline, and professional conduct.
* Promote and restore patients’ health by effectively planning, coordinating, and overseeing nursing care.
* Direct, mentor, and schedule nursing staff while communicating job expectations and supporting performance evaluations.
* Participate in staff performance appraisal as per hospital policy.
* Provide physical, emotional, and psychological support to patients and their families.
* Identify patient service requirements by building rapport with patients and their attendants.
* Ensure nursing staff adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and nursing guidelines.
* Assure quality patient care by implementing hospital standards, nursing protocols, and best practices.
* Complete patient care requirements by assigning nursing responsibilities and following up on investigations and test results.
* Create a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
* Ensure high levels of patient satisfaction with hospital services.
* Ensure the safety and proper maintenance of ward materials and equipment, including duty handover and takeover procedures.
* Conduct regular staff meetings and organize educational and training programmes.
* Promote patient independence by educating patients and families regarding diseases, medications, and self-care practices.
* Provide accurate information to patients and healthcare teams by responding to queries and requests.
* Resolve patient care issues through multidisciplinary collaboration.
* Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment by following established policies and procedures.
* Implement and monitor infection prevention and control measures, including medication administration and storage protocols.
* Maintain complete documentation of patient care while ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
* Ensure all medical and administrative equipment functions properly through preventive maintenance and timely repair coordination.
* Maintain ward inventory registers, property records, and repair books.
* Monitor nursing supplies inventory, forecast requirements, and approve requisitions where applicable.
* Develop professional knowledge by attending workshops, continuing education programs, conferences, and reviewing professional literature.
* Foster effective teamwork through clear communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
* Educate staff regarding hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and quality standards.
* Supervise nursing students during their clinical postings.
* Participate in quality improvement programs, nursing audits, and accreditation activities.
* Actively contribute to Quality Team initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and nursing service standards.
