Registered Nurse - Clinical Practice & Staff Support, Team/Clinical Lead
Unit: Emergency/Inpatient Unit

Role Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides leadership within a multi-disciplinary, team-based framework, and delivers direction, supervision and management to nursing (Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses), and other allied health providers. The RN provides on-going assessment of programs and services, conducts/arranges staff in-services as appropriate, monitors, performance, productivity, and promotes the clinical competency of all staff. The position coordinates services to ensure client and family/support person involvement, continuum of care, and problem resolution.
The RN will possess a thorough knowledge of physician, nursing and allied health workflow, and acute clinical business processes and be competent in building effective working relationships.
The RN is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs. The position is responsible for the facilitation of ongoing learning for all nursing staff and provides clinical supervision to students as requested. The RN supports the desired outcome of all quality improvement and educational activities and ensures the enhancement of patient care and is a strong advocate and expert resource for use of best practice approaches. The scope of this position includes acting as an expert resource, developing and strengthening operational guidelines to ensure consistent standards of practice, leading the development, implementation, evaluation of new and/or planned initiatives.
Clinical Practice:
- Provide leadership, quality advice, planning, implementation, evaluation and support for consistent application of services within the scope of nursing according to relevant standards of practice and core competencies
- Act as an expert resource, developing and strengthening operational guidelines to ensure consistent and up to date standards of practice
- Lead the development, implementation, evaluation of new and/or planned initiatives with a group of clients utilizing evidence-based nursing practice
- Adhere to routine precautions and infection prevention and control techniques according to organizational policy
- Responsible for the coordination and delivery of professional development support, education, orientation and evaluation of programs
- Responsible for the assessment, continuous care planning/resource allocation, evaluation and appropriate discharge planning of clients’
- Ensure decisions are consistent within the scope of practice (within own level of competence) and is accountable for competent, ethical and safe practices
- Participate in various relevant committees and quality improvement teams to provide content expertise, and present updates to various committees as a representative of their clinical practice area
- Responsible for keeping records of staff skill levels, mandatory competencies and certifications
- Identify clinical practice issues affecting quality and patient safety outcomes and implementing best practice patient care standards
Leadership:
- Provide clinical supervision and input into the performance management process
- Provide leadership and change management on the implementation of programs
- Provide leadership and interpersonal expertise by being visible, accessible and communicating effectively with all levels of the organization and maintaining an engaged relationship with healthcare providers
- Use current literature/research and performance indicators to support evidence-based practice
- Proactively seek professional development opportunities for themselves and others
- Coordinate or deliver programs to reinforce nursing education and to remain current with developments and changing trends in the nursing field
- Mentor and facilitate preceptors with students, beginning practitioners and practicing nurses by demonstrating care and treatment techniques, explaining routines, and sharing specialized nursing experiences
- Maintain a psychologically and physically safe environment and reports all safety hazards
- Monitor and promote staff adherence and accountability to all policy, ethical and legal guidelines.
Statement of Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, or a Diploma in Nursing with extensive experience in clinical area may be considered
- Considerable experience (3-5 yrs) directly related to nursing practice area
- Experience in supervisor, planning, educator and education roles
- Must obtain and maintain education credentials and certifications specific to practice area and role
- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island
External candidates may be eligible to receive a $8,000 Nursing Incentive, plus a $5,000 Rural or $8,000 Student Loan Incentive depending on location of employment. To be eligible for recruitment incentives candidates must hold a 1.0 FTE, this can be a full-time role or a combination of part-time positions. Relocation Assistance may be available to part or full-time candidates.
Salary Range: $42.77 - $52.61 per hour (RN3)
Bi-Weekly Hours: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly / Monday-Friday/ 8-Hour Shifts / 12-Hour Shifts / Occasional Evening and Weekends
